Costs

Costs are referred to as donations since they are generally 100% tax-deductible. Speak with your tax advisor to learn how the cost of international airfare can be tax-deductible as well.

The Peace Villages Foundation works hard to keep costs to an absolute minimum and offers financial transparency. We encourage you to "shop around" before you commit to our placement to ensure your complete satisfaction with the experience. Many people successfully fundraise.

Our minimum volunteer donations are set up so that the longer you stay, the lower your monetary donation becomes per week. We do this to encourage longer stays, recognizing the reality that longer stays lead to more significant volunteer work, more long lasting experiences for the volunteers, and more energy contributed in the form of donated time in place of donated money.

The cost schedule is set up to allow you to clearly illustrate the decrease in the per week cost for the total amount of time you plan on staying. All Donations are indicated in Euro € as they are paid to Peace Villages International which then allocates them to Fundación Aldeas de Paz en Santa Elena, Venezuela.

• Santa Elena bus terminal pick-up. Our staff will welcome you to the Peace Villages home-base upon arrival to Santa Elena and ensure that all of your needs are met

What's not included:

• Visa (on arrival at Caracas International Airport you will be given a tourist visa valid for three months which can later be renewed every 3 months)
• Airfare to Venezuela, national and local transport and related services
• Personal Expenses, travel/medical insurance; costs, and any expenses incurred in preparing for the trip
• Any additional expenses encountered as a result of flight delays, cancellations or missed connections

Terms and Conditions

You send us the application form. Once you receive the written confirmation, your volunteer placement is being held. The written confirmation includes a financial schedule which sets out the details of the volunteer cost calculation and the 50% deposit, due within a week of receipt of our confirmation to fully secure your placement.
The remaining payment should be transferred to the Peace Villages Foundation account before arrival or paid on your arrival in Santa Elena. If you wish to make alterations to your placement, accommodation or arrival/departure date, we will endeavor to make the changes, provided we receive your request in writing at least 60 days before the placement start date. In the event of cancellation, Peace Villages Foundation will retain the entirety of your payment or part of it depending on the number of days before the placement start date that you cancel.

Cancellation until 90 days before start date - we refund 50%.
Cancellation 90 days to 60 days before start date - we refund 25%.
Cancellation 60 days & under before start date or cancellation during placement - no refund.

(The reason for limited refund: We need to maintain a good working relationship with our program coordinators, beneficiaries and hosts. We will try to find a suitable replacement volunteer to carry out your cancelled placement, and the less time left before the placement is due to start, the more expense and difficulty we will have in recruiting this person. Alternatively we may decide to make a financial or other contribution to the relevant program or host family or contract a paid replacement professional to ensure the projected work will be done and the programs will not suffer).
