Peace Villages Foundation

How to Apply

Can I Apply?

Yes! You can become a Peace Villages Volunteer! We are happy to place volunteers wanting to work with us regardless of their age (see Age Limits below) or experience level. We welcome couple, family and group participation. Typically Peace Villages Volunteers are dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic about their work. They are flexible about the kind of work that they do and able to adapt quickly to a new environment and new people. You do not need special skills nor do you have to speak fluent Spanish. Any necessary skills will be learned on the job. It is quite possible to volunteer and learn Spanish in parallel. Most of our international volunteers have no previous experience and very little Spanish. This is rarely a problem as we provide thorough support. If you have an ongoing health condition of any kind, please inform us of this in the application form. This will help us fit you into an appropriate program. If you would like further information, please visit this link Is Peace Villages a Good Fit For Me?

The volunteer application process is very straightforward!

  • Send us the details that we'll need from you to consider your application. Also, please email us a short CV/resume including a passport style digital/scanned photo (it's ok to smile, the photo is for inclusion on an official government recognized security pass and to help us recognized you at the bus terminal).

  • Once your application has been received, assuming we are able to accommodate you, we will send you a written confirmation of your application and your requested placement, including a cost calculation form. (Also see Application Timeline below).

  • A 50% deposit is necessary to secure your placement. See Terms & Conditions for further details.

  • We will assist you as much as possible in preparing for your trip and especially for your transfer to Santa Elena. Also, prior to your arrival, we will keep you regularly informed about new and changing volunteer opportunities, and Peace Villages news in general.

  • If you have a concept for a new program or development of an existing program, or if you want to get involved in planning for your chosen program, we encourage you to let us know as soon as possible, so that we can begin discussion before your arrival in Santa Elena!

Conditions of the Application

Age Limit
Peace Villages accepts applications from all prospective volunteers, regardless of age. Our youngest volunteer was 11 and the oldest was 72! We ask that all volunteers under the age of 18 be accompanied by a parent or guardian. If this is absolutely not possible then we can receive younger applicants, at our discretion, if a parent/guardian contacts us to confirm their support of the volunteers´ placement with us.

Placement Duration
We are always in need of help and accept volunteers year-round. We normally require a minimum of 3 months to process your application. It is possible that we may be able to accept volunteers in shorter time scales, but applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. The minimum placement duration is one week and there is no maximum time limit.

Application Time line
This is a basic timeline that could vary depending on certain situations.

  1. Potential volunteer sends application to Peace Villages Foundation by email

  2. PVF responds to email within 48 hours (same day response cannot be guaranteed due to a very poor internet connection. Also no emails will be sent on Saturday or Sunday). As long as all requirements are met and all necessary materials included, applicant will be invited to volunteer with PVF.

  3. Volunteer makes travel plans. Typically our volunteers begin at Peace Villages within 90 days of application. This allows ample time to pay the 50% deposit (we must receive your 50% deposit before arrival, deposits take up to 5 business days to clear in our bank) 90 days is a preferred time frame. Many volunteers come earlier, many come later.

  4. Once 50% deposit is received, volunteer makes trip to Venezuela to begin!
