Multi-Media Travel Journalist

This non-profit project started in May 2007 and its mission is to bring awareness and economic help to the areas of animal welfare, human rights, and environmental conservation, through artistic methods such as writing, photography and documentaries. Latin America is the first continent for the project's destination.

This is an excellent opportunity for those looking to pursue or begin a career in Travel Journalism and project management for NGO operations. Aldeas de Paz offers a internship/ apprenticeship with our partner NGO different countries of Latin America. After a successful initial period it is entirely possible for the intern/volunteer to become an independent Travel Journalist for the partner NGO and to begin working in various other continents.

How you can help

The nonprofit multi-media project is currently in need of sponsorship and donations. All volunteer /intern donations and any money that is made by the sale of these artistic expressions, goes towards the continuation of the project and to the beneficing/participating NGO´s

Aims and objectives

  • Create awareness about animal welfare, human rights and environmental conservation, and show the common links between these areas
  • Encourage youth to live out their dreams whilst positively contributing to the environment, animals and humanity
  • Encourage people to experience the rewards of humanitarian help, animal welfare, and environmental efforts firsthand
  • Acknowledge people from many different countries who contribute to the world with positive action and intention
  • Improve relations between NGO´s in many different countries and facilitate networking

How the aims and objectives will be achieved

  • Connecting people emotionally to the passion of activists through artistic and creative media content published online and on site on public expositions
  • Bringing attention to the challenges faced by orphanages, schools, community groups, animal sanctuaries, and environmental and conservation projects
  • Acting worldwide as a cultural and social ambassador for the countries involved
  • Providing impoverished people with information and options to become involved in volunteering for their communities
  • Through inspiring motivational speeches given to school students and prospective volunteers in various countries of South America, Australia, US and Europe
  • In order to achieve this, support is needed from the community, including the business sector and individuals

    Independent Project Activities:
  1. The Volunteer /Multi-media Travel Journalists will assist with all travel and lodging co-ordinations, transportation arrangements, organization, group and individual contact and communication, documentation and back-up
  2. Working on website and news blog: updating, revising
  3. Working in financial accountability tasks such as preparation of invoices, financial planning and creating budgets
  4. Reporting, interviewing, writing, and editing
  5. Taking photographs and/or video
  6. Keep notes clear and accurate
  7. Build solid relationships with interviewee and other participants
  8. Respond to all participant and host enquiries asap
  9. Coordination with service operators (pick-up, transfer, hotel accommodation, etc)

Requirements

The volunteering /interning Multi-media Travel Journalist will enjoy meeting new people, be passionate about travel and adventure, and have a strong interest in helping in the areas of animal welfare, human rights, and environmental conservation. He/she will also have a curious personality, and a keen interest in photography, writing, and other forms of creative multi-media such as online, video and documentary making, culture, and learning new languages.

The participant would have a passion for development work, some experience in international volunteering and conversational Spanish skills. A one months minimum time commitment is required. The Volunteer / Multi-media Travel Journalist position involves continuous communication and travel, as well as alternating community support. This project has normally only up to three volunteers /interns /apprentices working at any one time together with the team leader/coordinator.

What is included:
This project is different from all our other programs since the candidate is traveling and working together with the project leader, Simone. She will welcome you at the airport and bring you to the hotel. There will be an introduction meeting and daily work meetings. She will be your supervisor and coordinator but also your travel mate and contact person during the project. You will share many activities and travel together. Simone is a experienced traveler and Journalist. She is a very active and professional and a very pleasant person to work with in this exiting project.

Participants will have to pay for their own travel expenses but enjoy independent living arrangements which are included and paid for.
