Since Venezuela is a Spanish-speaking country and English speakers are not very common, it would obviously be advantageous to know some Spanish before you arrive. However, you can quickly improve your speaking skills in the volunteer projects. Most of our international volunteers speak very little Spanish when they get here. It is quite possible to volunteer and learn Spanish at the same time.
We offer free Spanish language classes on a regular base to ease your everyday interactions with the locals and teach you through practice.
Additional Spanish classes can be arranged either one on one or in a group. Formal classes cost around 6 USD per hour, less if done in groups. You may also be interested in taking an intensive course before arriving. We encourage cooperative-living volunteers to practice their Spanish around the Aldeas de Paz home with fellow volunteers and local staff as often as possible.
