Important Travel Information to Santa Elena de Uairén

Our home base

is in Santa Elena near the south eastern border with Brazil, an extremely peaceful and safe town and region.

 

Step 1:

arrival at caracas airport

Following Immigration: When you passed through customs and walk into the main terminal you will be met by your previously booked "Pick-up Service". Your English speaking and extremely helpful and patient driver will be waiting for you with your name on a big board! If you flight arrives late, the driver will wait for you.
To the Bus Terminal: The driver brings you from the airport to the bus station and assists you with the purchase of your bus ticket.
To the Hotel: In case you choose to spend a night in Caracas before traveling on to our location in Santa Elena the driver will bring you the hotel of your choice an next day to the bus terminal.

Step 2:

From Caracas to Santa Elena

The fastest, cheapest, and most convenient way to travel from Caracas to Santa Elena is by bus. The comfortable buses are equipped with stretch reclining seats, air conditioning, a bathroom, and DVD system. Several companies operate modern buses which bring you directly to Santa Elena, our charity headquarters. These buses are more sophisticated and comfortable than buses in Europe or North America, for example.
Your bus will arrive at Santa Elena bus terminal. Our Staff will welcome you and bring you to the charity headquarters.

An alternative travel option: Take a connecting domestic flight from Caracas to Puerto Ordaz and complete your trip by a connecting bus to Santa Elena.

So basically I’ve had like the best time ever here in Santa Elena!!! Three weeks flew by, I wish I could have stayed longer.

  1. If your luggage is searched make sure you are present
  2. Don't leave unlocked valuables in your hotel room or the bus
  3. Do not openly display money
  4. Walk confidently, directly and at a steady pace
  5. Walk on the side of the street that is facing the traffic

The Venezuelan Currency

The currency of Venezuela is the Bolivar Fuente (BsF). Currency controls remain in place in Venezuela and the official changing rate is (USD 1  = BsF 4,3 ). ATMs: Mostly mayor credit cards are accepted at Venezuela´s ATM´s and over the counter bank transactions. Changing Money in Caracas: Bureau de change at the Caracas airport, will exchange US dollars or Euros for Bolivars, as will some major hotels.
